Navigating Perimenopause

Symptoms of perimenopause/menopause include tiredness, low energy, sleep disturbance, low libido, and vaginal dryness. Women struggle with these symptoms for years and often turn to different wellness experts for answers and treatments that don’t address the root cause of the symptoms. We remain frustrated, don’t feel like ourselves, and are often totally unaware that symptoms of perimenopause can begin as early as age 35.

One of the challenges in navigating this chapter in life is getting an accurate diagnosis. Some of us express these symptoms only to be told that we have “chronic fatigue syndrome.” In rare situations, we are informed that we are entering perimenopause without completing comprehensive lab work, and we are often not empowered with the insights, tools, and resources to successfully navigate this life transition. What makes matters even worse is the misinformation and untruths surrounding perimenopause and menopause in the mainstream media. Here are the basics that you need to know about Perimenopause/Menopause.

  1. Perimenopausal symptoms can start as early as age 35; the average age of menopause is age 52.
  2. Symptoms can be vague and nonspecific and are often overlooked.
  3. This is an important time to get comprehensive lab work done, including hormone panels.
  4. There are lifestyle changes that you can make that can help with symptoms; developing optimal lifestyle habits is imperative during this chapter in life.
  5. Treatment options exist, although they may not be for everyone. There is overwhelming clinical evidence of the safety and efficacy of hormonal therapy. Partnering with your medical doctor to determine the best approach personalized to your needs can transform your life.
